Teacher Professional Development
The following workshop offered by the Living Planet Aquarium education staff is part of the Teacher Resource Pilot Program (TRPP). We are currently in the third year of this pilot program. Funding for TRPP was provided by the Utah State Legislature and the Utah State Office of Education’s ISEE (Informal Science Education Enhancement) program.
Utah’s Unique Environments – Fourth Grade Teachers
This free workshop will provide teachers with inquiry based curriculum and classroom materials to assist with all four objectives of Standard V in the fourth grade science core. The inquiry-based and role playing lessons allow students to observe their own environment, learn how to ask questions, and refine their science process and thinking skills. Teachers will also gain an understanding of what characteristics make up different environments in Utah. Materials given to each teacher that attends the workshop will be helpful in transforming the classroom into a young naturalist’s headquarters. Examples of materials provided include classroom sets of hand lenses and insect collection jars, bird, plant and insect beginning ID books, plant presses, laminated pictures of Utah plants and animals, and field binoculars.
There is no charge for teachers to attend this workshop and workshops are held statewide at the district. Each district in the state will be reached over a three year period.
