THE HIVE HONEYBEE EXHIBIT
See what all the buzz is about! The Aquarium’s latest exhibit, The Hive, showcases Utah’s state insect, the honey bee. Look inside a working beehive, search for the Queen bee, watch bees make honey, learn why bees are such an important part of our living planet, and find out how you can help protect them.
DID YOU KNOW?
There are more than 900 species of bees native to Utah. Our exhibit features European honeybees, which are prevalent throughout Utah thanks to their ability to produce more honey than other species. Other common species you might see locally are the Bumblebee, Mason bee, and the Leafcutter bee.
HOW POLLINATION WORKS
Pollination is a process in which animals, like Bees, carry pollen between plants in an ecosystem. This helps plants to reproduce.
BEES MAKE MUCH MORE THAN JUST HONEY
In the United States we depend on Honeybees to pollinate nearly one-third of all the food we eat every day. Take a look below at just a few of the foods we eat that require pollination from Honeybees to grow!
