How do I qualify for Field Trip pricing?

Our Field Trip programs are specifically designated for qualifying School Groups, including:
Public Schools (Pre-Kindergarten – 12th Grade)
Charter Schools (Pre-Kindergarten – 12th Grade)
Accredited Private Schools (Pre-Kindergarten – 12th Grade)
Homeschool Groups
College Classes
Residential Treatment Centers
Post-High School Programs
District-funded After School Programs, School Clubs, and Summer School Programs

A 15-person minimum is required to receive the discount. Exceptions can be made for groups of students with special needs.

What if I have a Non-School Group?

Families, Summer Camps, Church Groups, Communities Groups, Private Pre-schools, Day Care Programs, Recreation Centers, and Assisted Living Centers may still eligible for the group rate, but should not schedule reservations through our Field Trips department. To purchase group tickets, call 801-355-FISH (3474) ext. 222.

Are reservations required before we arrive at the Aquarium?

In order to receive the school group discounted rate, we require a reservation at least two weeks in advance. If you choose to visit the Aquarium without a reservation, you will be charged regular admission price for every member of your group.

How far in advance do I need to request a reservation?

We need at least two weeks’ notice to schedule your Field Trip.

Are there any dates that we cannot visit the Aquarium?

We do not allow school groups to make reservations for weekends, holidays, or Aquarium Free/Discount Days. Some exceptions may be made for school groups that need to visit on a weekend.

How many chaperones are required?

Although we do not require a certain number of chaperones, we do ask that every student is accompanied by an adult at all times during the visit. The Aquarium allows a designated ratio of parent chaperones to enter free with each school group (see below). Chaperones must be at least 18 years of age (high school students may not serve as chaperones). Teachers and staff are free and are not charged as chaperones for admission.

Pre-K – 6th Grade: One free parent chaperone for every five students.
7th – 12th Grade: One free parent chaperone for every 10 students.
Students with Special Needs: One free parent chaperone for every student.

Are teachers counted in the chaperone ratio?

No, teachers are free and are not charged as chaperones for admission.

May I bring additional chaperones beyond the free chaperone ratio?

Yes! Additional chaperones are welcome to attend. Your group will be charged $6.95 for every chaperone above the free chaperone ratio. In order to receive the $6.95 rate, payment for chaperones must be made in one lump sum at the time of check-in. Chaperones paying separately will be charged $21.95.

Do my chaperones have to stay with their group, even if they are Middle or High school students?

We ask that every student be accompanied by an adult at all times during the visit. We depend on our chaperones to make Field Trips at the Aquarium successful. Chaperones have the important role of actively monitoring student behavior and facilitating learning. Please keep students close enough to you throughout the Field Trip that you can see them and engage with them quickly. Your group may be asked to leave in the event of inadequate supervision or inappropriate behavior in the Aquarium.

What if my students or chaperones have annual membership passes?

Members of your group are welcome to use their passes for admission. Please bring any students or chaperones who are planning to use their passes to the check in desk with the contact teacher upon arrival. Please ensure that students will have their passes accessible for scanning.

Where should school buses park?

What happens if we need to change the amount of students after the reservation has been made?

If you are scheduled for a Self-Guided Only Field Trip, you do not need to provide advanced notice of changes to student numbers. If you are scheduled for EcoVenture Classes, please notify us if your number will change by more than 10 students so that we can adjust your class schedule.

What is the best time of year to come for a Field Trip?

Fall and winter months tend to be less busy than the spring and will have more flexibility in scheduling and programming. March, April and May are our busiest months of the year. If you are planning on coming for a Field Trip during these months, please submit your request as soon as possible, as our schedule fills up rapidly. We encourage you to refer to our calendar (link to EcoVenture schedule form) for EcoVenture class availability.

How long should we plan to stay?

The length of your visit may vary depending on the needs of your group and the interest level of your students. However, most people agree that it takes about two to three hours to visit all of the exhibits. The length of your visit may also depend on your EcoVenture class schedule.

Are we able to eat lunch at the Aquarium?

At this time the Aquarium is not able to accommodate school group lunches in the facility. We do not allow school groups to store or eat their lunches inside our building. We do allow school groups to eat outside the building on the grassy areas and walkways around the Aquarium, but ask that they bring their own garbage bags and clean up after themselves. Café sitting (including patio tables) are not available for field trips.

Is re-entry permitted after we leave the Aquarium to eat lunch?

Yes. Just let a member of our Guest Services team know that you are planning to return after lunch.

Is there a place to put our coats and backpacks?

At this time the Aquarium does not have a space for backpack and coat storage. We strongly recommend that you leave them on the bus or in your private vehicles before entering the building.

Where is the Aquarium located?

The Aquarium is located at 12033 Lone Peak Parkway, Draper UT 84020.

Where do we enter and exit the building?

The entrance to the Aquarium is located at our new Welcome Center. Field Trips enter through the left side doors. If you need any assistance while exiting, please inform the Information Desk.

Are there any spaces that my group won’t have access to?

We do not allow Field Trips to enter Tuki’s Island: Play & Party Center due to space limitations. For an additional fee ($2.00 per person) your group may visit the 4-D Theater, but arrangements must be made before your visit for large groups of more than 50 people. The Café is also off limits to all school groups unless prior arrangements have been made to purchase food.

When do I have to pay for my Field Trip?

Payment is not due until arrival. Payment must be made in one lump sum at the time of check-in via school/district/business check, cash, or credit card. You can pay ahead of time. Please send an e-mail to if you plan to pay ahead of time.

Are there any classes or tours that we can take?

We offer EcoVenture Classes to qualified school groups for students ages Pre-K to 12th Grade. Please refer to the EcoVenture Classes page for more information. At this time we do not offer guided tours, but our Education Staff will be stationed throughout the facility to answer any questions you might have about our exhibits.

Do you have any educational materials?

Yes! We encourage you to print and distribute our student research guides to enhance your Aquarium education experience.

How do I reschedule?

Once your Field Trip reservation has been made it is difficult to change. We understand that sometimes situations arise that will require you to cancel or reschedule your Field Trip. If this occurs, please click on the button below and fill out the form to request a new date and time. We will do our best to give you your preferred date, but availability may be limited.
