Internships

INTERNSHIPS AT THE AQUARIUM

Education is the cornerstone of the Loveland Living Planet Aquarium.  We are dedicated to providing a quality educational experience for all interns.  Our internships are designed to expose interns to the many facets of aquarium careers.  Our in-depth programs will allow interns to explore opportunities in their designated field while working side by side with industry professionals.  Our goal is to prepare the next generation to enter the industry with the knowledge and experience needed to start their career path.

Applicants must have completed a minimum of a sophomore year at an accredited college or university.  All prospective interns must complete the application process.  In addition to the online application, applicants must provide a resume to Volunteer Services at  volunteer@thelivingplanet.com

Marketing

The Marketing Intern is responsible for three primary projects, listed below. Additionally, the Marketing Intern will assist with tasks including, but not limited to, content creation for the Aquarium’s website and blog, updating community calendar listings, and copy writing, under the advisement of the Marketing Team.

Guest Services

The Guest Services Intern is responsible for three primary projects, listed below. Additionally, the Guest Services Intern will assist with tasks including, but not limited to, evaluating the onboarding process, managing a budget, and analyzing trends in purchasing.

Horticulturist

The Zoological Horticulture Intern is responsible for observing and assisting the Horticulturist in the daily care of the plant species at the LLPA. Daily responsibilities will include but are not limited to: observing and learning from the horticulture staff, completing daily/weekly tasks, the set-up, and maintenance and care of indoor and outdoor plant beds.

Saltwater

The Zoological Saltwater Intern is responsible for observing and assisting the Saltwater team in the daily care of the saltwater species at the LLPA including sharks, rays, bony fishes, cephalopods, sea turtles and marine invertebrates. Daily responsibilities will include but are not limited to: observing and learning from the zoological staff, completing daily/weekly tasks, food preparation, cleaning husbandry areas and exhibits, performing water quality tests, and daily maintenance of the aquarium exhibits.

Freshwater

The Zoological Freshwater Intern is responsible for observing and assisting the Freshwater Team in the daily care of the various animal species at the LLPA including freshwater fish, tortoises, reptiles, and invertebrates. Daily responsibilities will include but are not limited to: observing and learning from the freshwater staff, completing daily/weekly tasks, the set-up, maintenance and care of freshwater tanks and enclosures, preparing and dispensing food, cleaning and maintenance of back of house areas.

Quarantine

The Zoological Quarantine Intern is responsible for observing and assisting the Quarantine Team in the daily care of the various animal species at the LLPA. Daily responsibilities will include but are not limited to: observing and learning from the quarantine staff completing daily/weekly tasks, the set-up, maintenance and care of quarantine tanks and enclosures, preparing and dispensing food, observing and assisting staff with disease recognition and treatment, life support system construction and operation, and species identification.

Endotherm

The Zoological Endotherm Intern is responsible for observing and assisting the Endotherm team in the daily care of the various animal species at the LLPA including mammal and bird species. Daily responsibilities will include but are not limited to: observing and learning from the zoological staff completing daily/weekly tasks, food preparation, cleaning husbandry areas and exhibits, and daily maintenance of exhibits.

Life Support Systems

The LSS Intern is responsible for observing and assisting the LSS team with routine maintenance on Life Support Systems, as well as preventative maintenance on LSS components.  Daily responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: Cleaning LSS areas, daily maintenance of LSS systems, routine maintenance of LSS components, running water quality tests, recording system and component maintenance, and assisting LSS staff with work orders and other projects.
